The Huntington baseball team put on a pitching clinic Saturday morning by shutting out Saint Xavier twice, 3-0, 11-0, to kick off their weekend at Thomas More Stadium in Florence, Ky.

Tyler Papenbrock was the first hurler to showcase his talent. The sophomore southpaw scattered three hits in seven frames for the complete-game win. He struck out ten while issuing three free passes. Just twice did the Cougars have runners in scoring position.

All three of the Foresters’ runs came in the top of the fourth. With bases loaded and one out, Bryce Deckman drew an RBI-walk. With bases still full, transfer Tyler Jakob singled up the middle to drive in two more which proved the game’s final runs.

As a team, HU finished with seven base knocks. Jakob posted two hits to go along with his two RBI. Langston Ginder also logged a pair of hits which included the game’s only triple.

Joey Butz went the distance in the nightcap to completely dominate SXU. He surrendered just one hit, a double to the second batter he faced, and three walks while sitting down six. Just five Cougars made it on base over the course of the seven-inning affair.

Offense came easily for Frame and crew. They pounded out 12 hits, seven for extra bases which included three homers.

Satchell Wilson, in his season debut, sent one yard as HU’s lead-off for a 1-0 lead right off the bat. Ian McCutcheon and Matt Wolff kept things going with single and double respectively which setup Jarret Gray’s base poke into center for an RBI-single and Sebastian Kuhns’ sac fly.

Huntington got creative in the second. After Wilson singled his way on base, he stole his way around the bags. His partner in crime was Ginder who drew a walk, snuck two bases of his own and then scored on a wild pitch to give HU a 5-0 lead.

Jordan Malott then cranked one out of the park in the third. It was his first collegiate dinger and upped his team’s score to 6-0. HU kept things rolling by way of McCutcheon’s two-run double and Ginder’s RBI-single later in the frame.

McCutcheon was back at it in the fifth with a two-run blast to wrap up an impressive outing at the plate with three hits and four RBI. Wilson also finished with three hits and an RBI.

Today’s two wins pushes Huntington’s overall record to 5-1. The Foresters are back it tomorrow with a doubleheader against Georgetown.
