WOMEN’S BASKETBALL

Despite a fast start, the HU women’s basketball team came up short against #RV Grace 86-65 Saturday afternoon at Platt Arena.

The loss snaps a two-game win streak the Foresters came into the day as they drop to 8-11 overall, 3-6 in league play. For the Lancers, they improve to 13-3 which includes  a 5-1 CL record. Grace is currently third in the conference standings while HU is tied for seventh.

After scoring the game’s first 12 points, Huntington rode out the quarter for an 18-10 advantage before their offense dried up. HU’s next points came by way of Gabi Melby’s triple in the corner but unfortunately it was midway through the second quarter and proved the hosts’ last lead of the day at 21-20.

It didn’t get any better for HU as they managed just two more points the rest of the frame to which the Lancers took full advantage by bolting in front 35-23 by halftime. The guests extended it to 64-39 heading into the fourth as scoring still did not come easy for Maggard and crew. Huntington finally got back on track in the final quarter to outscore their visitors 26-22 but unfortunately the chasm was already too wide.

Konnor Gambrell topped the Foresters with 13 points. Celeste Ryman added 12 and dished out three assists. Melby tossed in 11 and grabbed a team-best six boards. Emily Seboe knocked down three triples to finish with nine points. The 5-10 forward has hit at least three threes in each of the last six games.

Karlee Feldman and Kiersten Findley each posted 18 points and six rebounds to pace the Lancers. Maddie Ryman collected 15 points.

Today’s contest wrapped up the first round of league play. Wednesday the Foresters are back in action to host Spring Arbor at 7:00 p.m.
