VOLLEYBALL

The Forester volleyball team had a big week having upset  #15 Marian and #RV Saint Xavier and for their efforts swept the Crossroads League’s weekly honors as announced by the national office earlier today.

Sophomore Kortney Grimm (Gahanna HS, Gahanna, Ohio) was one of the driving forces behind HU’s offense last week to be tabbed the CL Attacker of the Week. The 6-0 outside hitter tallied 3.4 kills per set at a .373 hitting percentage. She had eight kills and eight digs in the sweep of Marian before posting a career-best 19 kills to go along with nine digs and five blocks in Huntington’s five-set win over SXU.

Junior Morgan Robrock (Huntington North HS, Huntington, Ind.) filled the stat sheet for Herber’s crew to garner CL Setter of the Week accolades. For the week, the 6-0 setter racked up 87 assists in HU’s two wins to average nearly 11 assists per set. She also collected 21 digs, 11 kills, seven aces and six blocks to serve as one of the key cogs in both wins.

Freshman Layla Meyer (Heritage HS, Monroeville, Ind.) rounded out the awards for Huntington by being named the CL Defender of the Week. The 5-3 DS anchored her team’s backline with a pair of 20-dig efforts. After tracking down 25 digs in the Marian win, she finished with 22 against SXU to average 5.9 digs per set for the week.

The Foresters have strung together four straight wins to improve to 12-14 on the year. Next up is a home match against Spring Arbor on Wednesday at 7:00 p.m.
