VOLLEYBALL
The HU volleyball team played some of their best volleyball in the final set against #19 Taylor but ended up losing 3-0 (25-21, 25-14, 26-24) Friday night at Platt Arena.
The third set saw the two teams battling for the lead late in the set with Taylor eventually prevailing. Both squads logged 13 kills with De’Janea Johnson and Mariah Milledge leading the charge for HU with four apiece. Defensively, the Foresters finished the set with three blocks, one solo and two assisted.
“Other than our dip in the second set, I thought we competed well throughout the match,” said Coach Kelsey Herber. “We improved from the last time we played by covering the deep corners better defensively and having a competitor’s mentality.
“I thought De’Janea did an excellent job coming into the match for us. She was aggressive, hit shots and brought good energy to the floor.”
When all was said and done, Milledge posted a team-leading nine kills, Haley Kruse finished with seven and Kortney Grimm put down six. Morgan Robrock dished out 27 assists and tracked down 11 digs to lead her team in both categories.
The Foresters have faced three Top 20 teams in their last five outings. The loss drops HU to 6-11 overall which includes a 2-4 CL record. Huntington is right back at it tomorrow with a road trip to Goshen for a 3:00 p.m. match-up with the Maple Leafs.
