VOLLEYBALL

The Huntington volleyball team (6-10) kept things close all three sets in a 3-0 loss (25-20, 27-25, 25-22) to #RV Mount Vernon Wednesday evening at Ariel Arena.

The two squads are tied for fifth in the Crossroads League standings with a 2-3 league record.

The Foresters didn’t back down a talented Cougar squad that has already racked up 15 wins this year against just three losses. The final stats are evidence of just how closely Herber’s crew played their hosts.

HU finished with two more kills than MVNU, 38-36, while both teams tallied five blocks. The difference came by way of Mount Vernon committing eight fewer hitting errors and seven fewer service errors.

Haley Kruse collected a match-high 13 kills while Kortney Grimm and Tya Bynum put down nine and seven respectively. Morgan Robrock was busy organizing the offense, handing out 34 assists. Defensively, Grimm and Layla Meyer shared match-best dig honors with 13 apiece.

“Tonight we put ourselves in a position to win but didn’t execute to finish,” said Coach Kelsey Herber. “I thought we displayed a defeated mentality when we had no reason to step on the floor with a lack of confidence. A competitor carries herself with confidence each time she steps on the floor knowing her team is going to win.”

Huntington returns to Platt Arena on Friday to host #19 Taylor at 7:00 p.m.
