VOLLEYBALL

After two lopsided losses to Top 15 teams earlier this week, the HU volleyball team came raging back to beat the Cougars of Spring Arbor (9-6, 0-4) in three straight (25-17, 25-16, 28-26) on the road to improve to 6-9 overall, 2-2 in league play.

“I am so proud of this team and how they bounced back after a challenging week,” said Coach Kelsey Herber. “We grew as competitors and teammates today.”

Tonight’s sweep was the first over SAU since 2017.

The Foresters were creative with their wins – topping the Cougars from start to finish in the first set, reeling off seven straight points to end the second set and then mounting an impressive comeback to win the final set.

Kortney Grimm led a balanced attack with 12 kills. Haley Kruse finished with six kills while Tya Bynum, Morgan Robrock and Leah Carter added five apiece. Robrock was also busy organizing the offense having handed out 30 assists.

“Kortney played a great match for us,” said Herber. “She was an offensive weapon, a leader, played excellent defense and passed consistently. She was an all-around solid player for us tonight.”

Olivia Krahn and Layla Meyer took turns defending the backline with ten digs apiece. Kendyll Gebert logged four of her team’s eight aces.

HU hits the road again on Wednesday to take on #RV Mount Vernon at 7:00 p.m.
