VOLLEYBALL

Hosting one of the nation’s best Wednesday night, the Huntington volleyball team lost to #11 Indiana Wesleyan in three sets (25-15, 25-14, 25-16). It’s the Foresters’ second league match as they move to 1-1 in CL action, 5-8 overall.

IWU is one of four conference teams to enjoy a Top 25 ranking. Joining the Wildcats in garnering national attention is Marian at #3, Taylor at #18 and Mount Vernon at #25.

Wesleyan was a well-oiled machine when it came to their offense. They hit over .300 percent as a team each set while limiting their hosts to a .078 hitting percentage overall. De’Janea Johnson led Herber’s crew with nine kills. Kortney Grimm added six kills while Tya Bynum collected five.

Morgan Robrock handed out 28 assists and picked up seven digs. Layla Meyer finished with a team-best ten digs.

“Tonight’s match was a good evaluation of where we are as a team compared to the top teams in our conference as well as the top teams in the nation,” said Coach Kelsey Herber. “We have challenging matches this entire week, and it is our team’s main goal to stay mentally engaged and give our best effort every single point.

“In practice tomorrow we are going to work on defense, attacking against a large block and passing so that we can be better on Friday than we were tonight.”

The Foresters play at Marian on Friday and Spring Arbor on Saturday.
