MEN’S SOCCER
The Huntington men’s soccer team remained perfect against the University of Michigan-Dearborn Wednesday night by downing the Wolverines 1-0 at Star International Academy. HU is 4-0 against UMD since the two programs started playing each other in 2018.
Tonight’s win is HU’s second on the road with the game-winner coming just minutes into the second half. Garrett Klefeker set the stage by playing a ball into Pablo Garcia who found Joao Ratinho. The rest, as they say, was history as the sophomore transfer beat the keeper to put it away for his second goal as a Forester.
“This was a hard fought battle,” said Coach Russ Lawson. “The first 65 minutes we enjoyed the majority of possession. We were calm and composed and moved the ball well with our breakthrough coming in the 48th minute when Joao scored the only goal of the game.
“Defensively we were stout. I’m proud of the guys for getting the clean sheet. We have more to give and new heights to reach with this team. It’s exciting to see us moving in the right direction.”
Shots were at a premium with each team logging four apiece. Pedro Moreira, with one save, earned the shutout in goal.
The Foresters’ home opener is Saturday at 3:30 p.m. against Lourdes.
