Coach Frame to Retire from Coaching

After 38 years at the helm of the Forester baseball program, Coach Mike Frame has announced his retirement from coaching.

“It has been the honor of my life to serve as the head baseball coach for almost 40 years,” said Frame. “It is humbling to have been given this opportunity by our Lord and the University. I am grateful to my family, friends, former players and coaches for their support.”

“Coach Frame’s career exemplifies a lifetime commitment to the Forester spirit,” said President Sherilyn Emberton. “He worked tirelessly to create a legacy program in a sport he loves. We are blessed as a community by his faithful service.”

During Frame’s long-standing tenure, the Foresters have won an average of 24 games a year and enjoyed 23 winning seasons. His squads have captured a conference regular season title or conference tournament title 17 times, which includes winning two conference regular season championships in the last six years.

Frame’s resume also includes four NAIA National Tournament appearances. Thirteen times his players have earned NAIA All-American honors, and on 85 occasions players received All-Conference honors. He has had seven players go on to play professionally.

The veteran skipper has been tabbed conference Coach of the Year seven times as voted on by his league peers and been named NAIA District and Area Coach of the Year once. In 1988 he was named the NCCAA District Coach of the Year.

Frame’s success as a coach has also been well-documented, as evidenced by his induction into a slew of hall of fames. In November of 2003, he was inducted into the Huntington University Athletic Hall of Fame. Frame is also a member of the Indiana Baseball Hall of Fame as of 2009 and was recently inducted into the Nettle Creek Schools Hall of Fame and the Northeast Indiana Baseball Hall of Fame.

With 920 career wins to his name, Frame is ranked 27th in the NAIA for all-time baseball coaching victories. His overall record stands at 920-754 for a win percentage of .550.

“For nearly four decades, Coach Frame has served with distinction in a variety of roles across campus, but it is his highly decorated and storied career as the Foresters’ baseball coach where his legacy will be most felt,” said Athletic Director Lori Culler. “It has been an honor to work alongside Coach Frame for most of his 38 years and to have a front row seat to watch his passions come together to impact the lives of so many.

“That impact has not only been seen and felt by his athletes, but also by younger coaches who he has mentored over the years. His numerous honors and accolades may speak to his more than 900 wins on the field, but it’s the souls won off the field that speak to the influence he has had for eternity.”

Frame is a 1983 graduate of Huntington.
