SOFTBALL

Up against one of the nation’s top teams in #20 Madonna (10-1), the Huntington softball team wasn’t able to muster enough offense to suffer a pair of 6-0 losses.

Ehler’s crew managed just six hits on the day – three each game. Game one saw the HU pitching staff give up just six hits but the Crusaders made the most of their base pokes in addition to taking advantage of a few botched plays to mount an early 2-0 lead and then added four more midgame to cruise to the win.

Mackenzie Walker accounted for two of HU’s hits while Breanna Hines collected the other one. Karlee Franklin took the loss for HU. In four innings in the circle, the rookie hurler surrendered five hits, six runs and three walks while striking out two.

Game two had a similar feel as the hosts managed just one more hit than the opener, scored early and then padded their advantage as the contest wore on. Walker picked up her third hit of the day while Kiera Stacy and Jenessa Hasty were the Foresters to post a hit in the nightcap.

Adelyn Harsh was charged with the loss after going the distance to give up seven hits, six runs and three walks while striking out one.

The Foresters (3-13) return home on Tuesday to host IWU at 3:00 p.m.
