The HU baseball team did not fare so well on day two at Gene Autry Park. After suffering a 19-4 loss to Arizona Christian, the Foresters came up short to #23 Benedictine University at Mesa 13-9. With these losses, HU moves to 1-2 on the season.

In the opener, the Foresters never recovered from ACU’s seven-run second inning. The Firestorm took advantage of several hit batters and an error while pounding out five hits to establish a lead that was never threatened.

The hosts piled up 13 runs before Huntington finally got on the board in the sixth with back-to-back RBI-base pokes by Langston Ginder and Satchell Wilson. Daniel Lichty and Sam Kimmorley each drove in a run after that while Arizona Christian touched home six more times to make for the lopsided affair.

Just two hits separated the two teams. While timely hitting served ACU well, it wasn’t the only factor in the scoring chasm as the Firestorm took advantage of five HU errors and eight hit batters to push runs across home plate.

Tyler Papenbrock took the loss for Frame’s crew. The rookie southpaw spent the first three innings on the bump and gave up seven hits, ten runs and a walk while striking out one.

It was sweet revenge for Benedictine having suffered a 14-10 loss to the Foresters less than 24 hours earlier. Both teams found a way to put runs on the board as the score toggled back and forth until settling at 9-9 after six.

It was all Redhawks after that as the hosts plated four runs in the eighth to cruise to the W.

The sixth proved Huntington’s most productive inning having scored three times on back-to-back base pokes. Daniel Lichty opened things up by drawing a walk after which Ian McCutcheon singled his way on base. It set the stage for a Langston Ginder’s RBI-single followed by Satchell Wilson’s two-run shot.

The Foresters had to be creative most of the day as the sixth was the only frame that HU manufactured runs by way of RBI-hits.

Leading HU at the plate was Wilson and Matt Wolff who each finished with two hits to go along with three and two RBI respectively. As a team, the Foresters finished with eight hits to Benedictine’s 11.

Isaac Horton was charged with the loss having tossed the eighth where he gave up four hits and four runs.

The Foresters wrap up their time in Arizona by taking on Arizona Christian Saturday afternoon.
