MEN’S GOLF
The HU men’s golf team headed up to the Wolverine state earlier this week where they finished sixth out of ten teams at Spring Arbor’s Bill Bockwitz Classic held at Timber Ridge Golf Course.
As a team, the Foresters fired a 315 in each of their first two rounds on Monday before posting a 320 on Tuesday to finish with an overall score of 950.
David Beck led Coach Sholund’s crew with a 235 (75-79-81) to claim 22nd out of 60 golfers. Quin Edwards (78-81-80) and Colby Martin (89-75-75) each turned in a 239 to share a piece of 27th place. Peyton Richmond carded a 244 (80-80-84) for 34th while Carter Roseboom finished with a 254 (82-83-89).
“For the second straight event, we put ourselves in a position to compete at the top of the field,” said Coach Rick Sholund. “The guys are doing a good job at the start of the tournament. They are building a strong foundation and a belief system, and I am excited for them.
“Colby came in this fall a much more focused player as a sophomore and it shows in his confidence on the course. He had a tough round one and responded with a 75 in rounds two and three. He’s developing a patience and mental toughness out there.”
Marian topped the leader board with an 892 followed by Spring Arbor (915), IWU (935), Grand Rapids CC (943), Hastings (949), HU (950), Madonna (951), Cornerstone (963), Spring Arbor B (970) and Concordia (1019).
The Foresters are back in action September 24-25 for the Battle at Blackthorn hosted by Bethel.
