WOMEN’S GOLF

The Huntington women’s golf team finished tenth at the Players Club Invitational earlier this week by posting a 690 (346-344) at the two-day annual Taylor-hosted event.

“The women did so many positive things at Players Club,” said Coach Rick Sholund. “They should be gaining a lot of confidence in what they are capable of.

“On day two we started off very rough with three fairly big numbers in the first few holes, but I could not be more proud of how they responded. They fought for every shot all round.”

Danielle Tinsley turned in a 163 (82-81) to pace the Foresters with her 29th-place finish out of 64 golfers. Kira Moore (89-84) and Abby Sheehan (83-91) shot within a stroke of each other to finish with a 173 and 174 respectively.

Lauren Slottke turned in a 183 (95-88) while Lexy Turpchinoff finished with a 185 (92-93).

“Danielle was able to play the last 16 holes at one over par,” noted Sholund. “Her game seems to improve each week. She is a tremendous player and competitor and is setting a great tone for our team.”

HU’s next invitational is Battle at Blackthorn on September 24-25.
