Forester Lecture One Week from Tonight
Tuesday, September 7, at 7:00 p.m. in Zurcher Auditorium
Randy Beck, professor at the University of Georgia Law School, will present “Pharisees, Herodians and Jesus: The Kingdom of God in a Politically Polarized Culture”.
Professor Beck is also visiting two HU classrooms. In Professor Webb’s Seminar in Contemporary US Politics, he plans to share his extensive knowledge of the law school experience with “Should I Go to Law School?: The Legal Profession as a Christian Calling.”
In the other, Professor Bennett’s Ministry Leadership class, he plans to share his perspectives on chapter one of Daniel. “This is the chapter where Daniel and his three friends are taken from Jerusalem to Babylon and trained to serve the Babylonian king. It’s interesting to think about the ways in which they conform to their new culture and the ways in which they resist assimilation. They seek to serve their Babylonian neighbors while remaining faithful to the God of Jerusalem. It’s a good picture of how the church can serve the culture where it is placed without being co-opted by the world.”
If you have the chance to interact with Dr. Beck, please be sure to thank him for these additional investments in our students.
Finally, please plan on attending the Forester Lecture, and encouraging your students to attend, as well. There is more to the HU experience than the classroom, and HU invests significantly in complementary events, such as the Forester Lecture Series. If you would like to offer extra credit for attendance at this event, email kdrury@huntington.edu to have sign-up sheets outside the auditorium.
