Johnson to compete in the Olympic Trials
HU cross country coach Lauren Davenport Johnson has had her sights set on competing in the Tokyo Summer Olympics, and later this week the Huntington native will see if she can turn that dream into reality at the 2021 Olympic Trials.
The U.S. Olympic Trials will take place June 18-27 at Hayward Field in Eugene, Oregon.
Johnson qualified for trials in the 800 and 1500 meters. She hit the qualifying mark with a time of 2:02.01 in the 800 meters in August of 2019 at a meet in Ireland. She enters the race as the 38th seed while her time of 4:08.25 at the 2019 Music City Distance Carnival earned her the 21st seed in the 1500 meters.
Johnson will toe the line of the 1500 meter prelims on Friday (6/18) at 4:03 p.m. PDT. The prelims of the 800 meters is set for Thursday (6/24) at 7:00 p.m. PDT.
The rest of the schedule is as follows:
1500M Semi-Finals – Saturday (6/19) at 6:40 p.m. PDT
1500M Finals – Monday (6/21) at 5:05 p.m. PDT
800 M Semi-Finals – Friday (6/25) at 3:02 p.m. PDT
800 M Finals – Sunday (6/27) at 4:52 p.m. PDT
