MEN’S TENNIS

The Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) announced its annual NAIA Men’s Regional Awards to recognize coaches and players for their excellence on the court throughout the season.

Among the list of honorees was Kreg Eckert as the East Regional ITA Assistant Coach of the Year.

Eckert is in his first year as an assistant under HU coach Ignacio Poncio. Prior to this designation, he served nine years as the head coach of the HU program during which he guided the Foresters to a Crossroads League regular season title in 2013-14.

“We’re extremely thankful to have Kreg be a part of our program,” said Poncio. “He is a servant leader by nature and a true example of what a follower of Christ should look like.

“I am honored to have him help us grow this program and help our guys improve on and off the court.”

This past year, Huntington claimed an overall record of 12-7. Poncio and crew’s success was recognized by the NAIA having receiving votes in one of the season’s last national polls. As a team, HU finished fourth in the league standings and knocked off several ranked opponents this spring.
