SOFTBALL

The Trojans (30-12, 16-8) of Taylor University topped the Huntington softball team twice Saturday afternoon, 10-3, 7-2, at Gudakunst Field. The losses drop HU to 21-19 overall, 10-12 in league play.

TU scored in every inning of the opener to slowly pull away from their guests. Down 1-0 after the first inning of play, the Foresters drew even with their hosts on an Abigail Reed RBI-double in the second.

While the Trojans continued to put points on the board, HU’s bats were quiet until the fifth when Paige Eichelberger knocked one over the center field fence with a runner on. It made for 5-3 contest but by game’s end, Taylor had doubled their run total to claim the seven-run victory.

Meghan Fretz was charged with the loss having tossed the first four frames where she gave up eight hits, seven runs and three walks while striking out one.

Taylor’s offense carried into the nightcap as evidenced by scoring in all but one frame. Unfortunately, HU managed just six hits and finally strung together a few in the seventh which included Sophia Beachy’s double down the left field line that drove in both HU’s runs.

Mica Allen spent the first four innings in the circle to suffer the loss. She gave up seven hits, six runs, four of which were earned, and two walks while striking out one.

The Foresters will look to get back on track Monday when they host Mount Vernon at 3:00 p.m.
