SOFTBALL

The Huntington softball team picked off #6 Marian 2-0 Saturday afternoon behind their senior ace Meghan Fretz. The Wawasee High School product tossed a complete-game dandy to blank the Knights (24-8, 13-3). She needed just 76 pitches to log her sixth win of the year. She scattered three hits, did not issue a walk and struck out four of the 24 batters she faced.

The Foresters relied on just two mighty swings – one from Paige Eichelberger and another from Jada Crofoot – to take down MU. Both southpaws cranked it over the right field fence with Eichelberger’s coming in the first and Crofoot’s in the third.

The hosts returned the favor in the nightcap by shutting out Gower and crew 5-0. The Knights’ source of offense was by way of three doubles in three separate innings with Savannah’s Harweger’s two-bagger in the second driving in her team’s first three runs.

Breanna Hines, Kaela Robey, Hannah Shoupe and Darby Minor each logged a hit in game two for the Foresters. Adelyn Harsh took the loss. She tossed the first two innings and gave up four hits, four runs and three walks. McKyndsea Burke spent the last four frames in the circle and surrendered just five hits and a run.

HU (17-13, 8-8) takes a break from league play on Monday with a doubleheader at UNOH.
