SOFTBALL

The HU softball team suffered a pair of road losses, 5-2, 8-0, to conference leader Indiana Wesleyan (19-3, 10-2) Tuesday afternoon. In addition to claiming a portion of the top spot in the CL standings with Marian, the Wildcats are also currently ranked 11th nationally and backed up that rating with today’s play.

The Foresters’ bats were quiet most of game one with the fourth inning the exception. After Darby Minor found a gap in right-center for a single, a hit batter and base on balls set the stage for Kennedy Krull’s blast to left that drove in two runs.

While it drew HU even with their hosts at 2-2, the Wildcats put the exclamation on the contest in the sixth by way of two mighty swings. Rebecca Schrad led off the IWU’s half of the frame with a solo shot followed by a two-run round-tripper by Kamryn Buck that made for the 5-2 final.

Meghan Fretz took the loss for HU by giving up eight hits, three of which were homers, five runs and a walk while striking out one in six innings of work.

The nightcap was a quickie. Danielle Munn tossed a no-hitter to effectively shut down Huntington’s offense and cut the game two innings short. Adelyn Harsh spent the first three frames in the circle to be charged with the loss having given up nine hits, six runs and two walks.

The Foresters (14-12, 5-7) will look to rebound on Friday when they host Goshen at 1:00 p.m.
