SOFTBALL

The Forester softball team mounted an impressive come-from-behind 5-3 win in its second game against Bethel Saturday afternoon at Therese & John Gardner Field. The W avenged a 7-1 loss in the opener.

The top of the seventh saw HU cash in on five of their ten hits which included a trio of doubles compliments of Breanna Hines, Jenessa Hasty and Paige Eichelberger. Hasty and Eichelberger knocked in one and two runs respectively with their two-bagger. Eichelberger would then come around to score on Mara Lorkowski’s single to right. It made for a four-run inning that turned Huntington’s 3-1 deficit into a 5-3 lead that stuck.

HU’s first run came in the fourth when Hines logged her first double of the day that brought Kaela Robey home after she singled to left in her at-bat.

Huntington outhit their hosts 10-6 with Sophia Beachy and Hines pounding out three hits apiece.

Adelyn Harsh went the distance to pick up the win. She gave up six hits, three runs and two walks while striking out four.

Gower and crew would just as soon forget the opener. Despite posting ten hits, the Foresters only managed to touch home once on Courtney Mason’s RBI-single in the fourth. HU left ten runners stranded. Eichelberger posted three hits while Kennedy Krull added two base pokes in the losing effort.

Meghan Fretz was charged with the loss, having given up seven hits and four runs while striking out four in 4.1 innings of work.

Next up for HU (14-10, 5-5) is a trip to #11 IWU on Tuesday.
