BOWLING

The HU bowling teams wrapped up regular season conference play over the weekend with a solid outing at WHAC Jamboree #4.

On the men’s side, the Foresters finished third overall, second in their pod, by rallying behind their best shot-making of the year to post a score of 4658. Dylan Crowley was the high finisher for Shockey’s crew with a third place finish individually with a 616 pin total for a 205 per game average. Jordan Herring was two pins back with a score of 614 (204/game average) good for fourth place. For their efforts, both were named to the All-Tournament Team.

“I was really proud of the guys as a whole,” said Coach Mike Shockey. “They continue to show grit and determination each week and each week they keep getting better.

“I really like how the team and coaches formulate a game plan for attack and the team just sticks to it. They don’t buckle at the first sign of adversity. In a match play environment like we see in postseason tournaments, this is going to make them extremely tough to beat.”

After a rough start to the day, the Huntington women got back on track to finish with a total of 4339 to land fifth place overall, third in their pod.

Amber Elliott paced the Foresters with a 583 set for a  194 per game average to post a ninth place finish individually. Kayli Iorio finished second for HU with a 539 for 16th place.

“There really aren’t words to describe what happened at the beginning of the day,” said Shockey. “We were roughly 200 pins under our average after game one and that put us in a hole that we just could never dig out of. We regrouped and were fine with most aspects of the game after that; but were never able to get anything big going to makeup the loss of that first game.”

Next up for the Foresters is the Hoosier Classic on February 20-21.
