Heart Healthy Substitutions
Eating meals that are heart healthy sounds boring and bland, but in reality, this can be quite the opposite! A few substitution tips to heart healthy include including adding more fresh produce, skipping the salt, cutting back on sugar, and cooking with whole grains.
Here is a recipe for a Heart Healthy Blueberry Smoothie (Heart Healthy Blueberry Smoothie Recipe | Allrecipes):
Ingredients:
1 cup blueberries
¾ cup pomegranate juice
½ cup low-fat plain Greek-style yogurt
½ cup skim milk
½ cup rolled oats
¼ cup granular sucralose sweetener (such as Splenda)
2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
Directions:
Bleed all ingredients together in a blender until smooth (about 2 minutes).
