The Huntington women’s soccer team wrapped up the regular season on a high note by disposing of Saint Francis 3-1 Saturday afternoon at King Stadium. The two squads squared off earlier this season for a 0-0 stalemate.

The Foresters made sure that wasn’t the case today by dominating possession from start to finish. After firing off 13 shots in the first half to USF’s two, Jordan Adam finally slipped one past the keeper far post after Ashtyn Patrick found her on the run in the box in the 62nd minute.

Saint Francis answered with 17 minutes remaining to draw even with their hosts. But Lewis’ crew remained poised and it paid off three minutes later when Katie Sell launched a bomb from the top of the box that found upper corner. Sell erupted for a career-best nine shots on the day with her final strike sizzling the net for her third goal of the season, the second in as many games.

Just over a minute later, Adam put the finishing touches on the match when she outsprinted the USF backline and then dribbled around the keeper to find an open net for her second goal of the afternoon. Adam leads her team in goals this season with four.

The Foresters finished with 29 shots, 19 on frame, while limiting their visitors to just six shots. Maddy Moan went the distance in frame to claim the win. The junior keeper finished with four saves.

“This was a very strong team effort today,” said Coach Lewis. “I liked our response after Saint Francis tied things up.

“Katie’s goal was well struck and placed. And Jordan’s composed second goal of the game sealed the win for us. I also thought Megan Smith and Avery Giguere were solid in the middle both offensively and defensively.”

Since today was the second meeting between these two teams, it’s considered a non-conference match. As such, the Foresters overall record stands at 2-9-1. Lewis and crew now play the waiting game to see where they’ll be ranked in the final league standings and who they’ll play in first round action of the CL tournament. HU wrapped up conference play with a 1-7-1 record.
