Competition: Measures progress

• A student with Competition strives to excel, measuring self against the performance of others.
• As an instructor, use competitive language to establish clear goals and challenge the student with Competition to “win” by besting these goals.

Connectedness: Sees all of life as connected

• As a strength, Connectedness emerges as an apparent belief that all things are linked in a meaningful way and results in a distinct value system.
• As an instructor, encourage the student with Connectedness to build bridges among different people and groups and connect ideas.

Consistency: Treats people the same

• Consistency drives a student to pursue fairness and develop personal rules to treat others equally.
• As an instructor, provide concrete instructions, rather than abstract, to appeal to the pragmatism and rule-oriented student with Consistency.

Context: Thinks about the past

• A student with Context as a strength appreciates understanding a particular issue’s historical framework to plan for the future.
• As an instructor, offer the background to an assignment or provide a case study for the student with Context to collect relevant information.
