WOMEN’S SOCCER

The Huntington women’s soccer team was downed by NCAA Division III Trine 3-0 Thursday afternoon at King Stadium. It is the Foresters’ only break from league play this season as they drop to 0-6-1 on the year.

After losing its season opener, the Thunder (6-1) have gone on a tear by stringing together six straight wins which includes today’s victory. The visitors entered the day outscoring opponents 25-7 with HU its second shutout victim.

The short-staff Foresters gave up an early goal to chase Trine the majority of the game. The Thunder would strike again just before intermission and then put the game out of reach with a third goal 13 minutes into the second period.

Courtney McKown fired off three shots to pace Huntington offensively. Riley Voss spent the majority of time in net to collect five saves and be charged with the loss.

“It wasn’t our best effort today,” said Coach Lewis. “We’ve been making progress but our performance today was a couple of steps backward.

“We are dealing with a significant number of injuries which certainly doesn’t help but I am certain we will regroup.”

HU is right back at it on Saturday to host Spring Arbor at 1:00 p.m.
