WOMEN’S SOCCER

The Grace College Lancers, ranked 14th nationally at the end of last season, snuck out of King Stadium with a 2-1 win over the HU women’s soccer team Monday afternoon. It’s GC’s third game of the season as they improve to 2-0-1 on the year and in league play.

Jordan Adam opened the day’s scoring in the 25th minute to give her team a leg up on their visitors. After the senior forward tracked down a shanked clear, she juked Grace keeper Bethany Blackwood to find herself in front of a wide open net that she blasted for a 1-0 Forester lead.

It was Adam’s first goal of the season, the fifth of her career.

Unfortunately, it was a short-lived advantage as the Lancers’ leading scorer from a year ago in JJ Aalbue notched the equalizer less than 90 seconds later with Grace’s go ahead strike coming at the foot of Victoria Lucido with four minutes left in the half.

The 2-1 score stood the test of time as both teams’ defense was stingy after that for a scoreless final 49 minutes.

Maddy Moan spent the first period in frame to collect three saves and be charged with the loss after which Riley Voss took residence in net where she finished with three saves as well.

Coach Lewis liked what he saw today. “I liked today’s team effort and the progress we are making. Grace is a top tier team and to be in the game with them is encouraging.

“Jordan exhibited composure on her goal and freshman Kalaina Stephens stepped up nicely as our center back when Alex Bryant went down with an injury in the first half.”

Huntington (0-5-1, 0-5-1) takes its only break from league play on Thursday when they host Trine at 3:00 p.m.
