WOMEN’S SOCCER

The Forester women’s soccer team suffered a 3-0 loss to Mount Vernon Wednesday afternoon at King Stadium to drop to 0-3-1 on the year and in conference play. It’s the Cougars third straight win over HU as they improve to 3-2-1 overall, 2-2-1 in league action.

MVNU struck twice in the opening 22 minutes to build a lead that would stick. Junior keeper Maddy Moan was charged with the loss before Riley Voss came in on relief to collect five saves in the 62 minutes she spent in net.

While the first half belonged to the Cougars, the final 45 minutes was a more evenly played stanza. After taking just one shot prior to intermission, the Foresters generated four shots, three of which were on target, to create some good looks that unfortunately didn’t translate to points on the scoreboard.

It looked like the second period would register scoreless but in the final minute, Mount Vernon rapid fired several shots with one finally torching the back net to make for the 3-0 final.

“We played a lethargic first half,” said Coach Lewis. “But the second half was much better. I want us to build upon the efforts of the second half.”

The Foresters will look to regroup by Saturday when they travel to Goshen for a 7:00 p.m. matchup with the Maple Leafs.
