MEN’S SOCCER

The HU men’s soccer team (3-0-2) didn’t let the long bus ride to Mount Vernon affect their play Wednesday night at Yellow Jacket Stadium as they punched one in early and then held on for the 1-0 win over the Cougars.

It’s back-to-back wins for Huntington for a 3-0-2 record in CL action. Five games into the season, the Foresters are currently sitting atop the Cross Division with MVNU (3-3, 3-2) just below them. Bethel leads the Roads Division with a CL record of 3-1-1 while IWU is second with a 2-0 record.

Defense was the name of the game as the evening only saw a combined six shots on goal with the Foresters cashing in on one of their four in the 18th minute when Hunter Jackson scored off a corner kick for what served the game-winner. The goal is his second of the season.

Tonight’s W is the second shutout in a row with senior keeper Gabe Greenfield notching both in frame. The Foresters have yet to give up a goal in their three wins.

“Whenever you can win in the Crossroads League and win on the road,” said Coach Lawson. “It’s a good day.

“The fashion in which we did it was definitely putting in a shift. I was proud of our ‘bend but don’t break’ mentality. We had some key performances – one obviously being Hunter’s goal off the restart, but credit our backline for their stellar play tonight which included Gabe coming up with a few phenomenal saves to keep us ahead.”

Huntington returns to King Stadium on Saturday to host Goshen at 2:00 p.m.
