WOMEN’S SOCCER
The Huntington women’s soccer team had a solid first half against Taylor University on opening day at King Stadium before the Trojans amped up play in the final 45 minutes to enjoy a 6-1 win over their hosts.
Senior Katie Sell scored HU’s lone goal in the seventh minute of play by slotting the keeper on a through ball from Ashtyn Patrick. For Sell, who has spent most of her time at HU on the backline, it was her first collegiate goal and came on the ensuing kick-off just seconds after Taylor’s first goal.
The Trojans would go on to score what proved the game-winner right before halftime for a 2-1 contest by the midway point. Halftime served the visitors well as they found back netting three times in the opening 15 minutes to blow the game wide open. Morgan Orme and Linli Tu each scored a pair of goals for TU while Erin Teevans posted an assist and wrapped up her team’s win by scoring the final goal.
Three Foresters spent time in goal with Maddy Moan getting the starting nod and being charged with the loss. The junior keeper finished with seven saves.
“Despite the lopsided stats and final score, I saw a few things that we can build on,” said Coach Lewis. “We will continue to work on the quality of our game. Taylor has a good squad and once they got in gear, they took the game to us.”
The Foresters (0-1, 0-1) are back in action for a 2:00 p.m. matchup in Indianapolis with Marian on Saturday.
