Cleaning Protocols
Although we have increased the frequency and approach to cleaning around campus, there may be instances where you desire to clean your own office space or are asked to assist with cleaning classroom spaces. Below are tips for cleaning and disinfecting, as suggested by the CDC:
• Wear reusable or disposable gloves for routine cleaning and disinfection
• When using disinfectants, always read and follow the directions on the label to ensure safe and effective use and use no more than the amount recommended on the label
• Avoid mixing chemical products
• After cleaning, wash your hands with soap and water for 20 seconds
• Practice routine cleaning of frequently touched surfaces; high touch surfaces include tables, doorknobs, light switches, countertops, handles, desks, phones, keyboards, faucets, sinks, etc.
In addition to cleaning and disinfecting, maintaining safe behavioral practices is a critical component to help prevent the spread of COVID-19. Best practices, as recommended by the CDC, include:
• social distancing (specifically, staying 6 feet away from others when you must go into a shared space)
• frequently washing hands or use alcohol-based (at least 60% alcohol) hand sanitizer when soap and water are not available
• wearing cloth face coverings
• avoiding touching eyes, nose, and mouth
• staying home when sick
• cleaning and disinfecting frequently touched objects and surfaces
