Mission Moment
I have heard it said, “It is easy to walk the walk when the path is clear, but it is hard to walk the walk when obstacles appear.” The COVID-19 outbreak has certainly caused a change in routine and placed obstacles in our path. Our current circumstances require everyone to place a premium on flexibility, adaptability, and patience. The message contained in this Mission Moment is not another update on the COVID-19 situation, but it is a result of these unprecedented circumstances. When we think about our mission of Christ, Scholarship, Service, we often find examples of where the Forester Family has served others around the globe. It is not as common to see examples of where the components of our mission are called to action out of necessity on our own campus. To see the many ways that the Forester Family has come together to tackle the challenges associated with this situation has been remarkable. Faculty members have invested extra time with online course preparations, IT staff have spent countless hours ensuring our technology is in position to serve our needs, maintenance and housekeeping personnel have been on the front lines of cleaning to keep us healthy, office staff members have continuously answered questions and prepared new protocols, and students have been cooperative and selfless. Romans 5:3 reminds us, “we know that suffering produces perseverance; perseverance, character; and character, hope.” We may never know how living out our mission through these times may help provide hope to others. Nonetheless, it is still inspiring to see the Forester Family exhibiting our mission of Christ, Scholarship, Service in the midst of unprecedented trials and challenges.
