Huntington University senior Sarah Fryman was indisputably one of the best players in the nation in 2019-2020 and earlier today it was officially documented by the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) with her designation as a First Team All-American.
The 5-9 forward was one of ten NAIA Division II players to earn this distinguished honor. Fryman is just the third Forester in program history to receive an NAIA First Team All-American badge.
The award caps off an incredible final campaign that saw Fryman rewrite the history books by racking up 715 points this winter to eclipse the previous season record of 659 points shared by Becky Stump (1984) and Miranda Palmer (2017).
Fryman poured in 23.1 points per night to finish as the nation’s second leading scorer. Her accuracy at the charity stripe was also the second best in the NAIA. She canned
132 of her 144 attempts for a clip of 91.7 percent.
An Honorable Mention All-American pick last season, Fryman wasn’t just a scorer for Culler’s squad this season. She also ripped down a team-leading 7.4 rebounds, dished out 2.0 assists and swiped 1.9 steals per contest.
Today’s award tops a long list of accolades Fryman collected over the course of the year. Voted the pre-season favorite for Crossroads League Player of the Year, she lived up to that hype by being officially named the Crossroads League Player of the Year last month.
Fryman also landed a spot on the CL First Team and was recognized four times as the league’s Player of the Week this winter. Earlier this week, she claimed Honorable Mention All-American honors by the Women’s Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA).
“We’re very proud of all that Sarah has accomplished and the recognition she’s received, but this one is extra special in that she has established herself as one of the top players in NAIA Division II and did it while competing in the top conference in the country at this level,” said Coach Culler. “The defense played in our League is incredible which makes a season like Sarah’s even more special.
“No doubt, this is an honor she has earned!”
Fryman wrapped up her stellar career in Forester green and white with 1,910 points which ranks her third on HU’s all-time scoring list. She averaged 15.8 ppg over the course of her four years.
