TRACK & FIELD

The United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USATFCCCA) has doled out its annual regional athletes and coaches of the year awards for indoor track and field and among the list of honorees includes junior Hannah Stoffel and assistant coach Tracy Blocker.

Stoffel was tabbed the Great Lakes Region Women’s Track Athlete of the Year as announced by the USATFCCCA earlier today. The Huntington native is currently ranked first nationally in three events including the 600 (1:31.56), 800 (2:05.49) and 1000 (2:44.81).

Stoffel scored an astounding 33.25 points at the Crossroads League Championships earlier this month by winning all three of the above-mentioned races in addition to running a leg of the DMR and 4×400 relay. It’s her second USATFCCCA regional badge as she was also named the Great Lakes Region Cross Country Athlete of the Year this past fall.

“Hannah is the epitome of a dedicated athlete,” said HU Head Coach Joel Childs, “She does all of the things a coach could ask.

“However, what really makes Hannah special is the fact that she does that in all facets of her life. So, not only is she a great runner, but she’s a great student, teammate, athlete and friend.”

Blocker was voted the Great Lakes Region Women’s Indoor Track & Field Assistant Coach of the Year for his work as the middle-distance coach at Huntington.

HU’s middle distance athletes scored all but one of their team’s 93 points at the Crossroads League Championships by winning five individual events and two relays while setting six conference records. He has helped coach 18 Foresters to “A” standards, three “B” standards and six NAIA-leading times.

“Tracy winning this award is a direct reflection of his dedication to our team and his desire to see our kids do amazing things with the talents that God has blessed them with,” said Childs.
