Mission Moment
I was able to catch our bowling team in action in Indianapolis recently, and it was a great experience. Even though I thoroughly enjoyed watching our bowlers compete and represent the Forester Nation, what really captured my attention (and heart) was the way our student-athletes celebrated a young lady through the Make-a-Wish Foundation. Eva, a 7-year old battling B-cell Lymphoma, is pictured as she prepares to throw out the first ball for the women’s division at the Hoosier Classic. Thanks to the fundraising efforts of the Hoosier Classic event, which included our very own Foresters, Eva and her family will be going on a Disney Cruise later this year. Our Forester bowlers also went well above and beyond to pull together a special set of gifts for Eva and her family.
HU was one of four schools selected to be on the lanes near where Eva was going to throw the first shot. With the encouragement of Head Coach Mike Shockey and the bowlers’ generous spirit, the team put together a gift basket that featured a great assortment of Disney swag and an awesome assortment of candy. Eva was also shown love, compassion, and encouragement, which is truly something that will last her a lifetime. 2 Corinthians 9:8 reminds us, “Each of you should give what you have decided in your heart to give, not reluctantly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver.” It is clear that our Foresters gave cheerfully and furthered our mission of promoting Christ through Scholarship and Service.
