Mission Moment

Recently, Danny Solms and I had the opportunity to attend an event at the statehouse for the Independent Colleges of Indiana (ICI). The event afforded an opportunity to connect with state legislators and network with colleagues from other Indiana institutions. Although this event was organized through ICI, I was struck by how our University’s specific mission placed us there. It was easy to share great opportunities and experiences that Huntington University offers to its students, faculty, staff, and greater community. Similarly, it was awesome to share how God continues to bless HU through our comprehensive campaign, facility projects, academic/program offerings, athletics, and the overall experience for our Forester Nation.

However, there are always challenges, and this day highlighted some of those that all higher education institutions are facing. Conversations with those at the statehouse reminded us that we are challenged in a multitude of ways. Huntington University and our mission allows us to be uniquely positioned to withstand these challenges, though. A Scripture from Ephesians came to me as I stood in the rotunda of the statehouse that day. Ephesians 6:14-18 reads, “Stand firm then, with the belt of truth buckled around your waist, with the breastplate of righteousness in place, and with your feet fitted with the readiness that comes from the gospel of peace. In addition to all this, take up the shield of faith, with which you can extinguish all the flaming arrows of the evil one. Take the helmet of salvation and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God. And pray in the Spirit on all occasions with all kinds of prayers and requests. With this in mind, be alert and always keep on praying for all the Lord’s people.”

Bolstered by our tradition, kept on track by our mission, and blessed by God…Huntington University continues to fulfill our mission of promoting Christ through Scholarship and Service.
