WOMEN’S BASKETBALL

The #21 Forester women’s basketball team couldn’t shake their shooting woes Saturday afternoon at Platt Arena to suffer a 50-40 loss to #11 Saint Francis (17-4, 8-2). The loss is HU’s fourth straight as they drop to 15-7 overall, 4-6 in league play.

Huntington’s defense was on point, limiting the visiting Cougars to a season-low 50 points which is 23 points below their season average. A sputtering offense was what doomed Culler and crew. The Foresters connected on just .286 of their field goals which included going 1-for-13 from deep.

It was a game where the scoreboard never tipped in favor of HU. The Foresters played even with USF in the middle quarters but spotted the Cougars five points after the first quarter and then got outscored by five in the final ten minutes to make for the ten-point disparity by the final horn.

HU managed to get to the line just four times while USF found their way to the charity stripe 23 times as nearly twice as many fouls were called on the hosts compared to their counterpart. After pouring in 17 in the opening half, Sarah Fryman finished with 22 points to lead all scorers. She also corralled a game-best 11 boards for her fourth double double of the year. Sam Hammel tossed in ten points.

Kara Gerka and Meleah Leatherman finished with 13 and ten points respectively to lead the Cougars. HU limited their leading scorer Lauren McBryar to a single point.

The Foresters return to action on Wednesday to face Spring Arbor on the road at 7:00 p.m.
