INDOOR TRACK & FIELD

Huntington University senior Molly Mitchell had several standout performances over the weekend and for her efforts was named the Crossroads League Women’s Track Athlete of the Week.

Mitchell opened the weekend by taking first in the 1000 meters at the Grand Valley State University Holiday Open by clocking in at 2:56.58 which currently stands as the fastest 1K time in the NAIA for this indoor season.

The Cicero native followed up Friday’s performance by claiming two more top three finishes on Saturday at Purdue Fort Wayne’s Mastodon Opener. She took second in the 600 meters (1:35.58) and third in the mile (5:02.03).

Not only did Mitchell establish new PRs in all three races but more importantly automatically qualified for the 2020 NAIA National Indoor Track & Field Championships by hitting the A Standard in all of them.

Most impressive about Mitchell’s performances was doing so within an 18-hour timeframe.

The Foresters are off until the new year when they head back to Purdue Fort Wayne for the Fort Wayne Duals on January 18.
