BOWLING

The Forester bowling program wrapped up the fall semester at Southwick Lanes in Toledo (Ohio) to compete in the third WHAC tournament of the season. The one-day tourney format consisted of four team games and 16 Baker games.

On the men’s side, HU claimed seventh out of 13 teams with a total score of 6459 by scoring 3639 pins in team games and 2820 pins in Baker play. Austin Schultz had a fantastic day to earn another All-Tournament Team badge by placing third individually out of 120 bowlers with a score of 849 through four games to average 212.25/game.

“The men started off really strong with a team game of 1016 but weren’t able to maintain that pace for the day,” said Coach Shockey. “We have been able to start off solid the last several tournaments. The team has committed to better morning routine and it is helping us out of the gate. Now we just need to find our consistency to have that level of performance all day.”

The Forester varsity women finished the day with a solid third place finish out of 13 teams with a total score of 6530 which included logging a 3667 in the morning before adding another 2863 pins in Baker play. Amber Elliott, a Northwood (Ohio) native, had a homecoming party leading the singles portion of the tournament with a score of 847 for a four-average of 211.75/game. Not only did she land a spot on the All-Tournament Team, but her success also earned her this week’s WHAC Bowler of the Week honors.

“The ladies had that moment in Saint Louis where it clicked for them and they started not just bowling but competing,” said Shockey. “This weekend proved that moment was not a short-lived one. This was the most complete team effort we have had all season. We had a couple moments where things could have unraveled, but the ladies regrouped and came back firing on all cylinders.

“Amber has worked hard on her game since practice started in August. She saw the results of her hard work today. She is now able to play and score from parts of the lane that would have been a struggle for her just a few months ago.”

The JV squad also had a good weekend by finishing second out of seven teams with a score of 5777. The Foresters battled for the lead all day with Lourdes and Indiana Tech behind the play of Hannah Bond who tallied a score of 731 through four games for a 182.75 per game average.

“This group of ladies are by far the most improved group on the team,” noted Shockey. “I have been impressed by their willingness to make changes and their eagerness to learn the next step in the process.”

The Foresters are off until January 11-12 when they compete in the Buckeye Baker Classic.
