HU dominates league’s weekly honors
Of the 11 weekly awards doled out by the Crossroads League, HU dominated the voting with five Foresters earning Athlete of the Week accolades.
For the fifth time this season, Johnson’s crew swept the cross country awards.
Junior Hannah Stoffel picked up her fifth CL Runner of the Week badge by claiming top honors at the Crossroads League Championships at St. Patrick’s County Park in South Bend. Her PR time of 17:04 not only set a new course and program record but was also 54 seconds faster than her nearest competitor.
Freshman Haile Stutzman was tabbed the Runner of the Week for the fourth time this fall. He clocked in at 24:51 to win the men’s race by nearly six seconds. Like Stoffel, he also set a new course record.
Men’s soccer also enjoyed both weekly soccer awards with Gabe Greenfield being named the Defensive Player of the Week and Noah Fleming getting the nob as the Offensive Player of the Week.
For Greenfield, it’s his fourth CL honor of the year. The junior keeper tallied three saves in 94 minutes to keep Bethel out of the net in HU’s 1-0 OT win over the Pilots in semifinal action of the league tournament. Greenfield has eight clean sheets on the year.
Fleming scored the golden goal just over four minutes into overtime to lift Huntington past BU. The win sends the Foresters to the championship match of the tourney where they will look to defend their title from a year ago. The Fort Wayne native has three goals and an assist on the season.
Rounding out the Crossroads League weekly awards was senior Konner Platt who was named the Men’s Basketball Player of the Week. The 6-2 guard kicked off last week by pouring in 25 points in HU’s 73-71 road win over #13 IU East. He then racked up 35 points in an 88-75 win over Judson before finishing the weekend with a 14-point performance against #11 Olivet Nazarene.
For the week, Platt averaged 24.7 points on 53.3 percent shooting, 2.7 rebounds and 2.7 assists. He was a perfect 19-for-19 from the line over the three-game stretch.
