Mission Moment

I had the privilege to visit our HU crew in Peoria, Arizona, last week. The visit included meetings with city officials, a luncheon meeting with a large group of local high school counselors, strategic planning, future program planning, and generally getting to better understand operations there. In addition to the very productive work that was accomplished, the biggest takeaway for me was how impressive the footprint of HU Arizona has quickly become in Peoria. There has been incredible enrollment growth and a new program (OTD) kicking off in a little over a year. Additionally, the City of Peoria is very focused and supportive of the Huntington University presence, which is especially encouraging considering the substantial growth taking place everywhere in Peoria. As I saw pictures, heard stories, and saw data/information before my visit , I was proud of the progress as a HU alum. However, as I took in everything firsthand last week, I truly felt an overwhelming pride in our University and gratefulness for God’s provision and blessing.

To reflect on the fact that the only mention of HU Arizona when the Faith Forward 2022 plan was finalized in 2015 was “exploration of additional location in Arizona in collaboration with the City of Peoria,” it is incredible to realize all that has happened the last four years. As Huntington University looks to fulfill its mission of Christ, Scholarship, and Service through growth opportunities and gaining ground for God’s glory, it is encouraging to understand that Scripture also emphasizes forging ahead. Philippians 3:13-14 reads, “Brothers and sisters, I do not consider myself yet to have taken hold of it. But one thing I do: Forgetting what is behind and straining toward what is ahead, I press on toward the goal to win the prize for which God has called me heavenward in Christ Jesus.” HU Arizona is another significant example of how Huntington University is straining toward what is ahead and pressing on toward the goal…all while staying laser focused on our mission of reflecting Christ through Scholarship and Service.
