WOMEN’S BASKETBALL

Playing on the road for the first time this season, the #RV HU women’s basketball team breezed past Holy Cross College Tuesday night 81-36. It’s the Foresters’ largest margin of victory since November of 2016 when Culler’s crew disposed of Great Lakes Christian 114-28.

The W preserves HU’s perfect record at 3-0. For the Saints (1-3), 36 points is their lowest output since losing to Cardinal Stritch, 58-36, back in January of 2015.

Senior Erin Mohr kicked things off with two quick buckets to snag a lead that would only swell after that. Huntington led by 12, 20-8, after the first quarter and more than doubled that by halftime to take a 45-18 advantage into break.

Culler’s crew opened up the third quarter with a 14-4 run with four different Foresters putting the ball in the hole – reminiscent of how the contest started. The result was a 45-point difference by game’s end.

The Foresters did a lot of things well. As a team, HU shot 54.2 percent (32-for-59) from the floor while limiting their hosts to just 15 field goals on 23.4 percent shooting. Huntington also outrebounded the Saints 44-36 and committed nine fewer turnovers.

Sarah Fryman topped a balanced attack with 20 points. Sam Hammel added 12 points in addition to picking apart HC’s defense for a game-best five assists. Mohr finished with 11 points while six other Foresters tallied at least five points.

Alexandria Bope nabbed game-high rebounding honors with nine to go along with handing out a career-best four assists.

Kaelyn Barlow paced the Saints with eight points.

The Foresters hit the road to the South Bend area again on Friday to take on IU South Bend at 5:30 p.m.
