WOMEN’S SOCCER

The visiting Trojans of #RV Taylor University played spoiler to the HU women’s soccer team’s Senior Day by handing their hosts a 4-0 loss.

Prior to opening kick, Lewis and crew honored five seniors – Mikala Avina, Addalyn Brown, Laura Caicedo, Alyssa Kochel, Bailey O’Dell and Hannah Williams – for their loyalty, contributions and commitment to the program. All five statesmen saw action on a day where the score wasn’t necessarily indicative of how close most of the match really was.

After giving up a goal in the early going, Huntington held TU scoreless the rest of the half and 25 minutes into the second period before things started to unravel. After scoring on a free kick in the 69th minute, the Trojans (11-4-1, 4-3-1) buried another one less than 60 seconds later before the Foresters knew what hit them. The visitors would add one more with seven ticks remaining as the cherry on top of their sixth shutout of the season.

Sophomore keeper Maddy Moan came up with several tremendous saves on the way to finishing with seven on the afternoon. At the other end of the pitch, HU tallied nine shots, seven of which were on target.

“We played a decent first half, but we need to play a full 90,” noted Coach Lewis. “I’m glad that all the seniors were able to play out the final minutes.”

The Foresters (4-12, 1-7) wrap up the regular season at Spring Arbor on Wednesday.
