MEN’S SOCCER

Senior Luke Unger scored ten minutes into Wednesday’s match to give the HU men’s soccer team a lead they would ride out for a 2-0 decision over #RV Mount Vernon (8-4-3, 3-2-2) at King Stadium. The W is Huntington’s sixth shutout of the season as they improve to 11-3-2 overall, 5-1-1 in league play.

With two regular season games remaining, the Foresters are currently sitting in the No. 2 spot in the CL standings.

The early score, which set the tone for the Foresters the rest of the afternoon, was beautifully set up by Noah Fleming when he served a sublime ball into the box that split the backline. After that it was a foot race with Unger besting MVNU keeper Joshua Dunn to laser a shot back netting at the 10:26 mark.

HU would ride their 1-0 advantage until the 61st minute when Christian Kohen put a little distance between the two squads. In a scramble off a set piece, the sophomore forward buried a loose ball for his fifth goal of the season.

By the final horn, Huntington collected 19 shots, ten of which were on frame, while the Cougars finished with 11, six on target. Gabe Greenfield posted four saves to pick up the shutout win

“Coming off Saturday’s disappointing loss, I thought our response was impressive,” said Coach Lawson. “I felt like we were disciplined in the back and courageous through the middle of the park with being on the ball and finding our weapons up top.”

The Foresters wrap up the regular season with a game under the lights at Taylor on Saturday after which they host Spring Arbor on Wednesday.
