Staff Retreat Improves Our Team

On October 14, the Business/Finance office took a day off from the office to focus on team building and efficiency improvements. We traveled to Grace College in Winona Lake where we were hosted by the Business/Finance team at Grace. On the trip to Winona Lake, Jean Cole led an activity that revealed some interesting facts about each team member. Upon arrival at Grace College, the HU team met in Westminster Hall. Shelia Hacker guided the group through a spiritual gifts assessment and then Joe Pretorius shared Excel hints and tips. Just before lunch, the team began discussing processes and procedures that could be changed to improve efficiency. That conversation was carried over to lunch with the Grace College Business/Finance team.

After lunch, we toured the “One Stop” concept offices at Grace College. They recently moved the registrar, financial aid, payroll and cashiering into one suite of offices. Following the tour, we returned to Westminster Hall and continued our efficiency discussion. We wrapped up the afternoon by exploring our personalities using the Enneagram. We closed the day with prayer for each other, our families, and our work at HU.

It is a blessing to work with a terrific team in an amazing place like HU. Thank you to the campus community for accommodating our day off!
