WOMEN’S SOCCER
The HU women’s soccer team (4-10, 1-5) has proven they can stay within striking distance of just about any opponent and so was the case again on Saturday night in their 1-0 loss to Goshen College (7-6, 2-4) under the lights at the GC Soccer Complex.
Of Huntington’s ten losses this year, seven have resulted in just a one-goal difference.
Both teams generated numerous scoring opportunities with Goshen getting the pay-off ten minutes before halftime when Beatriz Menghin, from 25 yards out, ripped one back netting for what served as the game-winner. Huntington finished with 19 shots, nine on frame, while the hosts collected 14, six of which were on goal.
Kirstin Byrd came off the bench for Lewis’ crew to finish with six shots while Bailey O’Dell added four and Jordan Adam tallied three.
“I liked our possession and the build-up of our attack tonight,” said Coach Lewis. “It was well-organized and enjoyable to watch. We maintained control much of the match, but credit Goshen for a well-placed goal and timely defense.
“Avery played an exceptionally strong game.”
Maddy Moan took the loss in net. The sophomore keeper finished with five saves.
Next up for HU is a road trip to #RV Mount Vernon on Wednesday for a 7:00 p.m. matchup with the Cougars.
