WOMEN’S GOLF

The HU women’s golf team took seventh at the Bill Bockwitz Classic hosted by Spring Arbor earlier this week at The Grande Golf Club. As a team, the Foresters fired a three-round score of 1071 (359-351-361).

At Huntington’s No. 1 spot, Betsy Schroeder fired a 242 (77-83-82) to finish 19th out of 44 golfers. Alexandria Maris turned in a 252 (81-84-87) for the 28th spot. Rachel Blauert carded a 273 (96-87-90) while Katie Springer rounded out Huntington’s scoring with a 304 (105-97-102).

“Betsy and Alexandria got off to a good start in Round 1 and after a tough start, Rachel settled in and played much better,” said Coach Sholund. “This was a fun and tough golf course that really challenges the placement of the ball and demands a lot from wedges and putters.

“I saw streaks of improvement on and around the greens so I believe that as we continue to grow our focus there, we could turn that into a strength. From tee to green we are competitive with teams, we simply make too many mistakes around the green. I am very encouraged with how we are communicating about this and working towards improvement.”

Sholund remains extremely optimistic about the direction his team is headed. “I believe in these young women and what they are capable of. We are looking forward to a short turn around and heading to Mount Vernon on Friday.”

Taylor took home the title with an 888 followed by IWU (921), Saint Francis (928), Campbellsville (959), Grace (960), Spring Arbor (964), HU (1071), Mount Vernon (1073) and Spring Arbor B (1099).

The Forester men’s and women’s teams will be competing in the Mount Vernon Cougar Classic on Saturday at Chapel Hill Golf Course in Mount Vernon, Ohio.
