WOMEN’S SOCCER
The HU women’s soccer team opened up league play Wednesday afternoon at King Stadium by hosting #17 Grace. The Foresters didn’t back down from one of the NAIA’s hottest teams but came up short to suffer a 3-0 loss to the visiting Lancers.
Huntington held their own through the opening 45 minutes against a Lancer squad that entered the day having scored 34 goals on the season – the 9th best in the nation. It was a botched defensive clear in the 29th minute that led to the visitors’ only goal of the half.
The 1-0 difference stood through recess but a three-minute spell early in the second half proved deadly for the hosts as Grace found back netting twice during that stretch. It left the Foresters on the run as they continued to fight for opportunities but came up empty.
The shutout was GC’s fifth of the season. The Lancers are currently riding a five-game win streak as they improve to 9-1 on the year, 1-0 in league play.
“Grace is a quality team and we played well at times, but had some struggles as well,” said Coach Lewis. “If we can maximize the quality moments consistently, we will begin to get better results.”
The Foresters, 3-6 overall, 0-1 in CL action, are back at it on Saturday with a road trip to #RV Indiana Wesleyan for a 1:00 p.m. matchup with the Wildcats.
