MEN’S GOLF

After a few weeks off from competing, the Huntington men’s golf team was back at it September 23-24 to play in the Bill Bockwitz Classic hosted by Spring Arbor at the Grande Golf Club in Jackson, Mich. Playing with a partial roster, the Foresters turned in a three-round score of 1015 (334-339-342) to finish 14th.

Logan De Maa paced Sholund and company with a 233. He was a picture of consistency, firing a 77-78-78 to claim 32nd out of 80 golfers.

Nick Whitney posted a 259 (84-88-87) to finish second on the team while Chance Bressler carded a 265 (86-91-88). David Beck (87-84-97) and Carter Roseboom (93-89-89) rounded out HU’s scoring with a 268 and 271 respectively.

“This was not a good tournament for us from a results standpoint,” said Coach Sholund. “The course won this battle and exposed our weaknesses.

“We can’t have two-way misses at this level and on courses like this. We had a young roster playing and this was a great opportunity to learn those lessons. We will be focusing on that and short game at practices as we head to Mount Vernon on Oct. 5th.”

Wayne State took home the title with an 888 followed by Taylor (893), Marian (906), IWU (907), Grand Rapids CC (911), IU East (914), Spring Arbor (918), Saint Francis (924), IU Kokomo (929), Shawnee State (923), Grace (944), Spring Arbor B (960), Mount Vernon (968), HU (1015) and Cornerstone (1050).

Next up for the Foresters is the Mount Vernon Cougar Classic on October 5 at Chapel Hill Golf Course.
