MEN’S SOCCER

Ohio Northern snapped the Forester men’s soccer team’s four-game win streak by handing their hosts a 1-0 loss Monday afternoon at King Stadium. The loss drops HU to 5-2-1 on the year while the Polar Bears improve to 4-2-1.

This afternoon’s meeting marked the first time these two programs have met. ONU entered the day as a well-documented second half team as evidenced by scoring six of their nine goals in the final 45 minutes. That proved true on this given day when Zach Yoder posted his first goal of the season in the 71st minute to give the visitors a lead that stuck.

For just the second time this season, the Foresters couldn’t find back netting. Lawson’s crew collected six shots in the contest, four of which were on target.

Gabe Greenfield took the loss in frame. The junior keeper finished with two saves on the day.

“Ohio Northern is a great team,” said Coach Lawson. “To give credit where credit is due, they are a very difficult team to breakdown when we did get the ball.

“ONU held possession well but I’m proud of the boys for keeping their composure defensively in numbers. I’m also proud of the guys who came off the bench to give us valuable minutes in the second half.”

The Foresters are back at it on Thursday to host Manchester at 4:00 p.m. It’ll be HU’s third game in six days.
