VOLLEYBALL
The HU volleyball team picked up its second league win Saturday afternoon at the Wiekamp Athletic Center with a 3-1 decision, 25-19, 13-25, 26-24, 25-13, over the Pilots of Bethel University (5-12, 0-4). With this win, the Foresters improve to 8-6 overall, 2-2 in league play.
“I was proud of our decision-making today,” said Coach Herber. “Even if we made an attacking error, I could tell our players were attempting a shot they saw was available.”
Herber’s crew used a balanced attack to claim its second CL win in as many days. Jennings Tacosik had several targets with five different Foresters registering at least six kills. Paige Eakright was the favorite to finish with 12. A pair of freshman in Tya Bynum and Anna Lewis struck for eight kills apiece. Bynum took just 11 swings for an impressive .545 hitting percentage.
Lindsay Ingenito added seven kills while Tacosik got in on the action too with six kills on nine swings. The junior setter also passed out 30 assists to go along with ten digs.
“Jennings has done a great job of getting our middle hitters involved on offense,” said Herber. “And Tya and Lindsay have done a great job of taking advantage of open space on the court.”
Defensively, Ariene Butler collected a match-high 19 digs. Like Tacosik, Eakright also tallied ten digs.
Huntington was on both sides of a lopsided set to leave Herber wanting more consistency. “Set two has been our kryptonite. Therefore, moving forward, we are going to push ourselves to remain consistent in our intensity and communication.
“However, I am proud of this team for getting back-to-back conference wins this weekend.”
The Foresters road trip to Marian on Wednesday for a 7:00 p.m. matchup with the #22 Knights.
